Solar Impulse

Solar Impulse was a project initiated in Switzerland by Bertrand Piccard in which I was involved in the planning and testing phases from 2003 to 2010.

In 2016 the Solar Impulse aircraft became the first aircraft to complete a flight around the world creating zero emmissions and using only solar energy.

Some pundits were scornful of the project in the early days, calling it a waste of money as using such technology for commercial purposes was a pipe dream. But here we are in 2022 with electric aeroplanes becoming commonplace and larger versions on the drawing boards of several major corporations.

The moral of the story ..... don't mock the pioneers!
